Guide to prepare In-Situ-Layers

Chemicals
In-Situ-PEDT-Layer:
CLEVIOS™ M (PEDT))
CLEVIOS™ CB (Fe(III)tosylate in butanol)

Adhesion-Layer:
CLEVIOS™ P (PEDT:PSS) or Silquest A187 (Polyepoxysilane)

1.) Deposition of an adhesion layer on glass substrates:
Note: The adhesion layer is necessary, especially for deposition on glass. Without adhesion layer the In-Situ-PEDT layers will peel off most probably during the washing step. The adhesion should have a thickness of 10-20nm.
CLEVIOS™ P or a Polyepoxysilane can be recommended as adhesion layers

a) CLEVIOS™ P as adhesion layer

CLEVIOS™ P AI4083 or. CLEVIOS™ P CH8000 are spin-coated as a 10-20nm thick film onto a glass substrate and subsequently baked at 200° C for about 10min on a hot plate.

b) Polyepoxysilane as adhesion layer
A187 is spin-coated onto a glass substrate (1000rpm, t=120sec, Acc.2, lid closed) or simply dipped in diluted Epoxysilan solution (0.1% A187 in Isopropanol)
and subsequently dried at 50°C for 5min in air . Humidity has an impact on the crosslinking of the epoxysilane. Medium humidity of 30-70% is our preference.

2.) Mixing the solution:
CLEVIOS™ M : CLEVIOS™ CB 40 :
Imidazol are mixed in a weight-ratio of 1 : 25 : 0.5.
In a first step Imidazol is dissolved in CB40. In a second step CLEVIOS™ M is added. The mixture can be filtered by using a syringe filter (0.45µm PDVF).

Density:  CLEVIOS™ M : 1,33g/cm³, CB40: 1,03g/cm³

3.) Coating the solution:
The solution has to be processed immediately after the addition of CLEVIOS™ M. After 5-10 min the solution starts to gel due to polymerization and the films will be inhomogeneous.
The solution can be spin-coated at spin speeds of 200-3000rpm and thin homogeneous films are formed. On a 50mm x 50mm large substrate the film thickness will be 170nm at 1000rpm, t=30sec , Acc. 2, lid closed.

4.) Drying the film
Drying:
1. Step: 5min at 50°C on hot plate in air
2. Step: 60min at room temperature in air
humidity level : 30-70%
The film will change colour as EDT polymerises while drying.

5.) Washing
The films are washed by shaking the substrate in a beaker filled with dist. H2O thoroughly to remove Fe salts. Adhering water is blown off in a N2 flow.

6.) Conductivity
The conductivity can be easily checked by printing two parallel conducting bars (silver glue) on top of the layer and by using a Ohm meter to determine the resistivity. The conductivity will be typically be in the range of 400-600S/cm.
